Seward US-83 (South)
Passing lanes, overlay, and patching on US-83 in KS.

Scope of Work
J&R added passing lanes, milled and overlaid the existing lanes, and patched PCCP sections across 13.8 miles of US-83 running north from the Oklahoma state line through Seward County, Kansas. Crews placed 133,646 tons of asphalt on a $20.3 million contract.
The project ran from March 2022 through October 2023, covering two construction seasons. At over 133,000 tons placed, this was the largest job in J&R's recent project group by tonnage.
The scope combined three different types of work under two KDOT project numbers, KA 2220-01 and KA 5600-01, into one contract: passing lane additions, mill-and-overlay on existing lanes, and PCCP patching where the underlying concrete pavement required repair before the new asphalt surface course could be laid down across the full corridor.
