Seward US-83
Passing lanes and overlay on US-83 north of Liberal.

Scope of Work
J&R lengthened existing passing lanes, built up superelevation on curves, and milled and overlaid the existing lanes across 7.6 miles of US-83 north of Liberal, Kansas, extending to US-160. Crews placed 78,303 tons of asphalt on an $18.9 million contract.
The project ran from March 2023 through April 2024, covering two construction seasons. The scope combined three different types of work in a single contract: passing lane extensions, curve superelevation, and mill-and-overlay on the existing lanes.
The work brought the highway up to current geometric standards while improving ride quality across the corridor. Like J&R's other US-83 jobs, this stretch is a heavily traveled north-south route through southwest Kansas, with through-traffic management built into the daily paving plan.
