What We Did

Scope of Work

J&R added passing lanes across 2.1 miles of US-54 east of the US-160 junction in Meade County, Kansas. Crews placed 35,387 tons of asphalt on an $8.4 million contract.

Record rainfall in southwest Kansas pushed the project start from June to August, putting the schedule under pressure from day one. To finish before Christmas, J&R crews worked four straight Saturdays in November and December. The road opened to unrestricted traffic on December 18, 2024.

The job ran from August 2024 through March 2025 and required tight coordination between the plant and the paving crews to keep production on pace. The work covered the full scope of asphalt paving J&R handles for KDOT, from prep through final compaction, with the same crews on the job from start to finish.
